Practical Information
Getting Around
Renting a car is highly recommended for exploring Grenada independently, as it provides flexibility to visit remote beaches and attractions. Vehicles drive on the left side. Alternatively, hire a taxi driver for full-day tours at negotiated rates ($150-200 per day). Local buses are very affordable but infrequent and don't reach all attractions. Many hotels and guesthouses can arrange transportation. The island is small (21 miles long), so nowhere is more than 90 minutes from St. George's.
Book Ahead
Book underwater sculpture park tours 3-7 days ahead during high season. Reserve accommodations well in advance for December-April visits. Car rentals should be arranged before arrival for best rates and availability.
Packing Essentials
Reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes, lightweight rain jacket, insect repellent, hiking sandals, snorkeling gear (optional), waterproof phone case, daypack for hikes, and light layers for mountain visits
Total Budget
$815-1,080 for the week (excluding flights and accommodation)
Customize Your Trip
Budget Version
Stay in guesthouses throughout ($40-60/night), eat at local food stalls and markets, use public buses where possible, skip guided tours in favor of self-guided hikes, snorkel from shore rather than boat tours, and cook some meals if accommodation has kitchen facilities. Focus on free attractions like beaches and town walking. Budget: $70-100 per day.
Luxury Upgrade
Stay at boutique resorts and luxury villas with private pools, book private boat charters for sculpture park and cave visits, hire a personal driver-guide for the entire week, dine at upscale restaurants with wine pairings, arrange private waterfall tours, book spa treatments, and include a sailing catamaran sunset cruise. Consider helicopter tours for aerial views. Budget: $350-500+ per day.
Family-Friendly
Focus on easily accessible waterfalls like Annandale, spend more time at calm beaches suitable for children, visit the botanical gardens at a leisurely pace, choose snorkeling over diving at the sculpture park, pack beach toys and snacks, select family-friendly guesthouses with kitchen facilities, incorporate more downtime between activities, and consider hiring a guide who specializes in educational family tours to teach kids about spices and wildlife.
